At first we thought ho hum another white modernist rectangle with nice lighting.
But there’s real daring here in the use of an immense cantilevered roof, and a definite nod towards tradition in the clever reconfiguring of the courtyard design.
We love the way the smooth lines and clean finish of the white plaster work is offset by rough stone and weathered timber.
Natural shapes and textures break through at key points and accentuate the drama of a highly finished architectural design set in the midst of meadows, chestnut, pine and oak trees and local wildlife.
The result is a pleasing and surprising hybrid of urban edginess and rural retreat.
